Another good piece of advice is to make sure your IPD is configured comfortably (you push the lenses closer or further together inside) and that you can keep the lenses between two different IPD settings if that feels more comfortable. I purchased the Elite Strap right when I got mine and I found it to be a big improvement on the included one, although as a disclaimer the elite straps can be a bit fragile but oculus is quick to replace one if it breaks. Now all that said, since you're having an uncomfortable experience with the Quest there are probably some improvements you can make to that headset to improve it a lot for you. Not to mention the Q2 tracking is nearly as good as the Vive's but doesn't require any new holes in the walls. I used a Vive for a long time, then I used an Odyssey, and the Quest blows those headsets away for me in terms of display quality and viewing comfort. The compromise from not having OLED is more like something you might notice playing a game set in a dark area when you realize "huh, this could look darker" than something that would constantly bother you.Īltogether I would be really surprised if the OG Vive was more comfortable for you to look at than the Quest. Unless it's specifically the black depth and color richness that is bothering your eyes with the quest 2 (which would be kind of unusual), I don't think it's the display tech making you uncomfortable. The OG Vive is notorious for severe "screen door effect": you can see the gaps between the pixels very obviously so it feels like you're looking at the world through a screen door. However, the resolution on the Quest 2 far exceeds the PSVR and the Vive. On a Quest 2, deep blacks are going to look more like a dark grey.
The biggest difference the OLED display makes is the depth of blacks, and to a lesser extent the richness of color. This isn't so noticeable (IMO) over a wired connection, but over Airlink (wireless) that compression bothers some people.

You tried PSVR with a Playstation 4/5, and tried the Quest 2 as a standalone headset, or tethered to your PC? The Quest 2 can do both - as a standalone headset you get the benefit that games are running natively, as a tethered headset you can get the full render quality of your computer but as a downside the imagery has to be encoded to video before being sent to the Quest. However, the PSVR screen resolution is so much lower than the Q2, and the tracking quality is so much worse, that I expect once you get the Q2 configured right for you it's going to feel more comfortable. That means the Q2 can do more once you get up and running with it, but it's not necessarily surprising it's not as comfortable out of the box for you as the PSVR was. It's worth noting the PSVR was designed with comfortable ease of use in mind first and foremost, but that from a tech standpoint it's really limited compared to a Q2. Schedule an AMA!
